Al Neuharth Free Spirit and Journalism Conference
The Al Neuharth Conference gave me a new perspective when it comes to the content we are producing as part of a high school journalism publication. I wanted to use every opportunity I could to learn from professional journalists. Val Hoeppner loved the series The Emery was conducting. Her only suggestions were to post more frequently and consistently, and include more video content. This year we did exactly that. We have a new Instagram series called, "Hot seat." This way we can gain traction and there would be audience growth.
I also learned about the various facets of a career one can choose, even being a "journalism kid." Snigdha Sur, CEO of The Juggernaut, a publication solely to share stories of the South Asian Community. Hearing how Sur overcame her struggles, owning a company like Juggernaut was very interesting and inspiring. Our conversation reminded me of Gandhi, as he said "be the change you want to see in the world."
