Journalism Education Association

St. Louis

This would be my first and last JEA trip (in-person).  Allison, my co-eic, Tarik, our managing editor and I gave a presentation on the Art of interviews. Other highlights of the trip would include The Emery placing 10th for the best of show in the nation, The Cougar Star winning first place,  and visiting the arch.  Below are snippets of the presentation at JEA. I talked about the importance of "on the record,"  and "off the record." I also talked about overcoming my social anxiety. After the session was over, a participant in the session came up to me and said, " You spoke so well, I couldn't even tell. Thank you for sharing your story."

Jaden Boster, a Huron Emery alumna, won an honorable mention for Digital Story of the year, for her blog "Are you doing high school right?" I was so so proud of her. I still remember editing and working through the article with her. She wasn't too confident about it and didn't want it to be published. After much persistence and encouragement from my adviser and I, we decided to post it AND send it to national awards.

Below are pictures of the arch, and going inside the arch at St. Louis. I had so much fun attending the conference with the other editors!
